Back in Spring 2017 I took a fortnight trip to Japan with two university friends. It was an unforgettable experience that I tried to capture with my phone at the time, a loyal Samsung A3 with a slightly broken screen that made everything appear with a slight-greenish tint.
Reviewing some snaps I uploaded to instagram at the time, the phone didn't appear up to much, but then I remembered a 6x4 photo print fixed to my pin board of a beautiful city night scene which really constrasted with my poor insta uploads.
Was the phone just better performing at night? Maybe, but unlikely - this is something you pay good money for with modern day phones. Another factor is the cheap wide angle lens adapter I was using - could the lens be being particularly effective at capturing what light there is in the picture (predominantly bright neon signage). Anyway, the pictures below for reference.
